superEMBRIO (2010)

[For English version please scroll down the page]

superEMBRIO, the character brought to life by Ramon Sadic, is contemporary to us and to the world we live in, a world generally perceived as confused, merry and cynical, distressed and mainly focused on the very present moment.

superEMBRIO is a homogenous and multifarious anti-hero, the very same winged, bulky warrior with phallic body and dull smile, as well as the flying obese character dressed in three-colored underpants, inspired by the American comic book superheroes. Unlike those superheroes though, superEMBRIO has no clear defined superpowers. He is able to fly, but his flight is a mockery, a zig-zag jagged flight, without any real goal.

Although he is an embryo (the term derives from Ancient Greek and it translates with “something that grows, evolves”),superEMBRIO is frozen into a motionless attitude and appears as an inert chrysalis. In this respect, the fat, lecherous embryo resembles many of us, with our helplessness or cowardliness hidden behind a facade of empty shapes, wrapped up in a “modern” discourse. His appearance reflects, in a critical manner, the internal emptiness, also alluding to numerous present Romanian political figures, with whom superEMBRIO shares the pattern of daily absurdity transformed into normal line of conduct.

superEMBRIO doesn’t have a fixed bearing – he is fragmented, ironic and irresolute. Ramon Sadic’s works both amuse and trouble. The embryo’s smile is real and pompous, just like the substance of this playful and somehow threatening creature.
